Equipment Loan & Rental

ARCOS maintains an equipment library which provides a unique service for assessment and practise in using alternative technologies. The library makes the latest ‘high tech’ equipment available for free trial and rental, enabling clients to fully explore the capability and suitability of equipment before purchasing.

Resources include devices for alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) and alternative input devices for computers for those unable to use conventional keyboards and mice. We also have saddle-seated wheelchairs which provide a stable therapeutic sitting position to enable severely disabled children to improve breathing, swallowing and use of their upper body. (more information)

The equipment library is a tremendous asset, allowing people to benefit from the most recent technology. It is generously funded via grants and donations, for which we are very grateful. Six saddle seated wheelchairs were purchased thanks to a generous donation from Allied Dunbar.

ARCOS also stocks a variety of specialist equipment for eating and drinking which can be bought from the ARCOS Centre in Malvern.

“The silence of speechlessness is never golden. We all need to communicate and connect with each other – not just in one way, but also in as many ways as possible. It is a basic human need, a basic human right. And much more than this, it’s a basic human power’ (Williams, 2000)
