“The silence of speechlessness is never golden. We all need to communicate and connect with each other – not just in one way, but also in as many ways as possible. It is a basic human need, a basic human right. And much more than this, it’s a basic human power.’
Williams, 2000

12 year old Samuel Walker who has cerebral palsy and uses a wheelchair, amazed everyone at ARCOS when he achieved a total distance of 5.3 kilometres using an Innowalk robotic rehabilitation device. The Innowalk is designed to help increase the flexibility of muscles, improve posture and movement and promote healthy hearts and lungs. Two product specialists from distributor, Made for Movement, brought paediatric and adult versions of the Innowalk to the ARCOS stand at the SAGE 2021, Sports and Grounds Exhibition held at the Three Counties Showground from Tuesday 27th to Thursday 29th July 2021.
AUTUMN 2021
A number of ARCOS clients are trialling the Innowalk equipment at the ARCOS Centre in Malvern and we would be delighted to make it available to others. So far, people with cerebral palsy, stroke and Parkinson’s Disease report that they have found the Innowalk to be beneficial.
Samuel’s parents said:
“When Samuel first tried the Innowalk at a demonstration earlier this year, it kept stopping because Samuel has frequent spasms and the Innowalk is designed to stop when the user has a spasm.
But Samuel is really determined when he has set his mind on something. He wanted to go to the ARCOS stand at the SAGE show at the Three Counties every day and practise using the Innowalk. So we all went, three days running and he was able to make the movements of walking himself. On the second day, he set a target of walking 2.5 kilometres on the Innowalk – and in fact he managed 2.7 kilometres! Over the three days he had walked a total of 5.3 kilometres. It is almost unbelievable, we are so proud of him! Now he wants to raise money so that ARCOS can buy an Innowalk.
Samuel (using his eye gaze system of alternative communication) said:
“If ARCOS could have one (Innowalk) at the ARCOS Centre, then lots of children could use it.”
