Carer Training, Advice and Support
Our training is practical and workshop based, comprising self-experience, supervised work with the client concerned and theoretical background.
Every person we work with is unique and our carer training is carefully considered and tailored to each individual’s circumstances. We also offer training and support online when it isn’t possible for people to visit our centre.
We aim to develop a carers understanding, knowledge and skills to help them support a cared for person to be as independent as possible, through improved swallowing, throat clearing and coughing, posture and mobility, and communication.
Our trained volunteers and staff are available to offer advice and support. We can signpost you to the most suitable ARCOS services or others in our network of partner organisations. We also run a support network for carers.
Most training for relatives is provided free of charge, funded by grants and donations.
Small changes happen
‘I’m so sorry I broke down, it was such a surprise, after all these years to see her able to change like that, swallowing without choking and holding the spoon a bit. I came along to the sessions because I didn’t want to be rude, I didn’t expect it to make any difference.’
