Who We Help

Eating, Drinking and Speaking are an essential part of everyday life. Most of us take these abilities for granted but for some people speech is impossible and eating is a misery, it may even be dangerous.

ARCOS clients have difficulty in one or more of the following:

  • Understanding speech
  • Reading
  • Using communication - either speech, gesture or facial expression
  • Eating and drinking (swallowing)

They may also have additional problems: impaired vision, hearing, learning difficulties or physical impairment.

ARCOS works with children and adults communication or swallowing disabilities caused by conditions that include:

Asperger’s Syndrome (AS) Profound & multiple learning difficulties
Autistic spectrum disorders Parkinson’s disease
Brain tumours Rett Syndrome
Cerebello-spinal ataxia Semantic pragmatic disorder
Cerebral palsy Stroke (CVA)
Dyspraxia Traumatic brain injury (head injury)
Huntingdon’s Disease (HD) Multiple Sclerosis
Learning disabilities Variant Creutzfeldt-Jakob’s Disease (vCJD)

Employment Opportunities

Speech and Language Therapist required to work full-time as part of our multi-disciplinary team; able to work with children and/or adults. Bobath training would be an advantage. Must be able to work hands-on or prepared to learn.

Occupational Therapist (Band 5/6) required to work full-time (annual contract) as part of our inter-disciplinary team. Must be prepared to work hands-on for assessment and treatment of individuals with neurological conditions.

Neuro-physiotherapist Post(s) based at the ARCOS office, some travel involved. Car driver essential. This is a full-time post but may be shared by two neuro-physiotherapists to work in our specialist multi-disciplinary team based in Malvern, an exciting opportunity for someone with skill and ambition to develop their career.

Full-time Secretarial post at the ARCOS Centre in Malvern: Microsoft Office experience and accurate typing skills essential, familiarity with speech to text would be an advantage but if not training is available. This is a full-time post for an experienced secretary who is seeking employment that offers an opportunity to be part of an expanding team and help develop a busy national charity.
